Exam Preparation

A tried and tested way of proving your English language ability is to follow a course that prepares you for an internationally recognised certificate. For employers and higher education institutions these qualifications provide evidence of your dedication and commitment to improving your English.

If your long term study goal is entry to a university in the UK, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia, you need a high score in the IELTS exam. A selection of courses, either focusing on IELTS preparation or including a specific component is offered in Torbay, Cape Town and Malta.

LAL Torbay offers a University Foundation course validated by the University of Brighton and leading to a choice of degree programmes in Business, Finance and Management; or English for Academic Purposes, 12 week dedicated programmes with either 18 or 27 lessons per week including IELTS preparation.

In Cape Town, IELTS is offered as an add-on to a General English course, with 10 lessons per week specifically dedicated to preparing for the examination.

The University of Cambridge Certificate exams are among the most widely recognised English language qualifications in the world. If your English level is between intermediate and advanced you have a choice of three Cambridge exams – First Certificate (FCE), Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE). LAL offers a series of dedicated courses designed for you to prepare for these examinations. A 'dedicated' course means that the programme is 'intensive' – (27 or 30 lessons per week) and that all the lessons are focused on the requisite Cambridge exam. LAL offers 8 and 12 week courses in each of our locations. All the courses are scheduled to coincide with the three annual fixed examination dates worldwide.

A high TOEIC score is valuable evidence of your English language competence in the business world. This course is offered in LAL Fort Lauderdale and Cape Town. In both instances the courses combine General English lessons with a component specifically dedicated to test your preparation techniques.

The route to successful entry to many North American universities is a high TOEFL score. TOEFL preparatory courses are available in LAL Fort Lauderdale and Cape Town. In both instances the courses combine General English lessons with a component specifically designed to provide you with the specific exam techniques to achieve the TOEFL score you require.
