On Wednesday 15th of April an under 15’s international tournament took place. It may have been small but the teams were really enthusiastic and played their hearts out, as our guest reporter, Oliver Perkins, reveals.
The teams consisted of two deadly international Germany sides: an A and a B team; a mixed squad of inspiring internationals from the school of LAL, and one small Tower House team, in which I, (the reporter), played.
Each team played each other for a 20-minute game and then a decider was played for the final.
This first game started with a real bang and neither side was afraid to attack. The LAL Internationals held the German side well and even scored the first goal. After that the Germans didn’t need to be asked twice and nagged and nagged and finally scraped a goal back.
A real thrashing is all I can say about this game. Tower House did play well, but it seemed not well enough and the Germans thoroughly deserved to win. They took control in mid-field and it all went well from there with their first three goals scored in the first 5 minutes, one of which was an own goal. I, as the goalkeeper, did not enjoy that game one bit, as the slipperiness of the Astroturf did not help. In the final minutes Tower House got a goal but they had left too little time for an unlikely comeback.
A cracking game by my point of view but perhaps not so for the LAL team. Don’t get me wrong - they play with great spirit but it was all down to the manager who did not have a clue how to kick a ball let alone manage a team. The manager in question, Simon Nelson, tried his little heart out but, like his awful football team, Ketterington (never heard of them), they lost the match.
The best match by a long way a really even and fantastic game. A consistent end-to-end battle between friends which made the game so competitive.
Another great match by my reckoning (well that’s because we won anyway). The goalkeeper got lobbed twice and still didn’t learn his lesson and strolled casually to the edge of his box before being lobbed AGAIN!
I watched this match from the sideline and I loved it. LAL had so many chances but failed to score as many as they should. But still a great game.
As my team had expected, we lost this game but only just. Germany did win by only one own goal but they still won, so all credit to them.
Thank you for those of you who took part in the whole arrangement of this activity and of course those of you who played.
