2009: Looking back and forward

It's hard to believe that it's nearly the end of the year. Lorraine Myrie looks back at special events in 2009 and forward to a special event next month.

March saw staff and students joining in the fun for Red Nose Day, with fancy dress, games and food throughout the morning. The fancy dress theme was 'the world of work' and LAL Torbay was filled with all kinds of professionals, from a milkman to superheroes - and even a gangster! We raised £230 for charity.

Agatha Christie week in September was absolutely fantastic. Tristram Grevatt created a cinema (which is now being used by the Film Club) in room 2.01, for non-stop showing of Agatha Christie themed films as well as special film shows. There were over 100 visitors to our Exhibition in room 3.08 and some classes took part in our competition. Special mention must be made of Bernhard's class of Italians who were so keen to complete the mystery jigsaw puzzle that they were nearly locked in the building in the evening! The highest praise and greatest thanks has to go to those students who entertained us with their wonderful performance of a murder play. Special thanks to Dmitry who took on the major part of Poirot when Maciej had to rush home because of illness.

We are happy to say that Maciej has made a full recovery, and is back with us in time to take part in our spectacular pantomime. This will be "Aladdin under the Sea" in the Student Lounge on 14.30 on Thursday, 10th December. We need all kinds of help: making scenery; helping with costumes and so on. Thanks to those already helping and thanks in advance to future volunteers!

Also on Thursday 10th December will be a Christmas Pudding Mix in 3.08 in the morning - details to follow!
