Facilities at LAL Torbay

Reception

The main entrance hall contains the Reception desk. Here you can buy telephone cards, send and receive mail and faxes, request photocopies and buy souvenirs:

Receiving Mail & Faxes

If we receive mail, faxes or e-mail addressed to a student via students.tlc@lalgroup.com, it will be held at Reception and a note will be put on the Message Board at the bottom of the main stairs to say that the item has arrived.

Sending Mail & Faxes

If you would like to post letters or postcards, you may purchase postage and send mail at Reception. Reception will send faxes with a charge of 75p for each sheet.

Photocopying

Reception will copy non-copyright material for 10p for each A4 sheet.

Telephone Cards

We recommend that you buy a pre-paid telephone card if you want to call home from payphones or your Host’s home. Cards cost £5 from Reception and allow you to make calls without putting money in a payphone or putting a charge on your Host’s bill.

Souvenirs, Postcards & Stationery

Why not buy a souvenir to take home, or send  a postcard to a friend? You can buy a range of LAL Torbay gifts, as well as postcards, pens and other stationery, from Reception.

Lost Property

Any items of personal belongings that are found at the school should be taken to Reception, and you should ask Reception if you have lost anything in the school.

Adult Lounge

The Adult Lounge is on the 5th floor, and is only for the use of Adult students.

The lounge has a mix of comfortable armchairs in which to sit and relax, and a work area where you can catch up on your studies. You can also purchase hot drinks in the Adult Lounge throughout the day and daily newspapers are delivered to the lounge every morning.

Student Lounge

The Student Lounge on the ground floor is available for all students to relax, watch television and meet friends.

Café LAL

The school’s café, in the Student Lounge, is open from 07.30 until lunch and serves a range of hot and cold snacks and drinks, including hot meals which can be ordered in advance.

Bookshop and Library

The Bookshop & Library, on the 1st floor, have a good range of course books, dictionaries and reference books, as well as reading books. The opening times are shown in the classrooms.

We also have a wide range of audio material and worksheets for listening activities; ask for details.

Computers and Internet Access

The Internet Study on the 1st floor has several computers which you can book, free, for word-processing and surfing the internet. We can recommend web sites to develop your English.

The wireless internet network called ‘LAL Torbay’ can be used free of charge throughout the school by students with portable computers.

Message Board

Please make sure that you check the noticeboard marked 'Messages' at the bottom of the main stairs every day.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the school building, including the porches and WCs. You may smoke in the garden, well away from the building.
