From 1st January 2008 LAL Torbay has required the main contact in each Host Home (the person who signs the Host Home contract) to have a current, enhanced, Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
If you already have an enhanced level CRB check that was prepared in the last two years, then you can simply show us your form.
If you do not already have an enhanced level CRB check, you will need to apply for one.
You cannot apply directly to the Criminal Records Bureau, but we can help you submit an application through an ‘umbrella’ body called United Medicare. The umbrella body currently makes a charge of £54 for this service. If you would like to apply for a CRB check through United Medicare, please telephone the LAL Torbay Accommodation Department on (01803) 546392.
The Children Act 2004 has resulted in tightened procedures for organisations which deal with children and ‘vulnerable adults’.
We wish to increase the security of our students, and have been advised by our accrediting body, English UK, that we should insist on CRB checks on Hosts. We introduced this requirement in advance of the expected introduction of compulsory vetting for all Hosts in all schools in the near future. CRB checks now will greatly speed up applications for any compulsory vetting.
There may be further changes, because the bodies organising vetting and barring are being reorganised following a review by the coalition government. A new body, the Disclosure and Barring Service, is expected to come into operation in 2012. We will contact you again to explain any new arrangements as and when they become necessary.
If you have comments or questions, please telephone the Accommodation Department on (01803) 546392 or e-mail hosts.torbay@lalschools.com
