LAL Torbay offers a University Foundation course validated by the University of Brighton and leading to a choice of degree programmes in Business, Finance and Management; or English for Academic Purposes, 12 week dedicated programmes with either 18 or 27 lessons per week including IELTS preparation.

We also offer a comprehensive university placement service for long term students looking to further their studies to foundation, first or second degree at an English speaking institution.

Intensive for Academic: If you are thinking about attending university in Britain but don't think your English is good enough to deal with academic situations, then this course is ideal. You will deal with the main skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking but focusing in the field of academic studies rather than general English. This is for students with an IELTs level of 5.0n and above.
Academic Purposes: The English for Academic Purposes course covers 3-terms and is full-time, it provides a high standard of appropriate academic background. The course is suitable for applicants who do not have the appropriate academic background, subjects or experience to allow them direct entry onto undergraduate courses. The EAP course offers a varied range of modules that provide the opportunity for all students to increase the range, depth and sophistication of their linguistic knowledge within the programme that is designed with a clear sense of progression.
University Foundation: LAL Torbay's University Foundation course: The Foundation Year is the Year 0 component of an undergraduate degree at the University of Brighton. It is full-time and provides a high standard and appropriate academic background for degree entry at the University of Brighton. The course is suitable for applicants who do not have the appropriate academic background, subjects or experience to allow them direct entry onto the undergraduate course.The course runs over one academic year consisting of three terms, each of which is of 12 weeks duration. Both LAL Torbay and South Devon College provide a high standard of teaching and personal tuition for the Foundation Year Course. The teaching staff have extensive experience in the areas taught on the course.
