Summer School English (13-17)

(24 hour supervision)

 

LAL UK Summer Schools' aim is two fold: enable students to use language communicatively in realistic contexts and provide a wide variety of enjoyable activities, encouraging integration with students from different countries and cultures.

 

LAL's residential Summer School at St Mary's University College runs for eight weeks, from 24 June to 19 August 2012.

 

Students can attend for one, two, three or four weeks and have 20 lessons of Summer School English with a comprehensive activity programme, with special excursions bookable on-site.

Levels:

Elementary to advanced

  • All LAL teachers are qualified, native speakers or native-speaker standard and hold a current certificate in teaching EFL
  • Students are tested at the beginning of the course and placed in classes according to their level and age.
  • Students are given a test at the end of their course and receive a certificate of attendance along with a comprehensive report.
  • Levels and tests are in line with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
  • All course materials are provided, including an LAL Course Book. The syllabus is created by the LAL England Academic Department and concentrates on communicative and topic-based lessons.
  • We seek to ensure that classes are made up of as many different nationalities as possible and that the age range is similar, though students’ level is the most important criteria.
  • There are 20 lessons of 45 minutes every week. Lessons are in the mornings only and will be from to Monday to Friday.
  • Students can also opt for the Trinity GESE examinations (by prior arrangement, subject to minimum numbers).
  • The Intensive English course is an additional 6 hours per week with the lessons taking place in the afternoon and evening. These classes will be a maximum of 10 students. Students taking part in this course will still be able to attend all excursions.
  • Private Tuition is available and subject to availability and advance notice must be given. Prices are available in our 2012 price list.
