Our over-50s course is designed to deliver magical experiences by bringing together the people, places and English language that will shape the way you interact with your world.
We’re talking about real-life learning experiences, something more than time spent inside the four walls of a classroom. Our Best of the South-West course takes you out of the classroom and puts you in your element with other like-minded people of a similar age: discovering things you have in common, celebrating differences.
English is for sharing and we have created experiences that will make you feel like you belong. The groups are small – a maximum of six – and you’ll be accompanied by a teacher. This is English on the go: making it meaningful, keeping it real.
You’ll visit an English castle, make your own gin, enjoy an English cream tea, indulge in some wine tasting, feast on an English pub lunch and take in the fresh air and scenery of a Dartmoor walk.
But be assured, this is more than a just leisure trip with some English thrown in. Research shows that learning English is more effective when it’s delivered in high context situations. Our expert teachers marry contextualized learning theory with cooperative learning strategies, engaging you through meaningful, interactive and collaborative activities. In short, our teachers enable you to be hands-on with your English and to learn in very natural ways.
Who said learning had to be dull and classroom-bound? Not us! Join us for the Best of the South-West and experience unforgettable English with unforgettable people in unforgettable places.
Because real-life learning resonates long after you have finished your course.
I want to improve my English that’s why I’ve been staying for one month at LAL. It was a good experience because I met people from different countries, new friends and I can practice English everyday.
Cape Town is a lovely place, I really enjoy it. The teachers in LAL teach well and they are so cool. The staff in the school is also sociable. Concerning my accommodation, I like it, my room is clean and has enough space even I shared it.
It was an amazing trip in LAL School. Course and lessons 10/10. Teacher Casey was a very good teacher. Accommodation – Thank you for cleaning all day!
I’d like to take this time to say something about the time I spent in Cape Town, especially the accommodation. Even if my host family is away from here by walking, Ms Bev Lucraft and her mother are friendly and they did everything they could to look after me. I recommend to the LAL to choose that host family to the others students because it is a good stay.
Teachers are good at English and they gave me all English I’m looking for and other facilities to succeed. I’ll recommend other students to take part in LAL.
Thank you for all. I really improved my English and I met a lot of amazing people. The room was perfect!
It could be in Portuguese, but I preferred to challenge myself and write my testimonial in English. I had Intensive English and it was four lovely weeks in LAL School. It was really good for me to interact with teachers and other schoolmates. My host mother, Bev and her mom were the best people that I met in Cape Town. I really felt at home. I will miss our conversation. Bev was a really mother for me . I have to say thanks for that.
