Exam preparation

The TOEIC test (Test of English for International Communication) was developed in 1979 and has been designed to evaluate your level of understanding and ability to use  the English language in an international business/industrial environment at intermediate and advanced levels. More than 4.5 million people each year take the TOEIC test to enhance their CV and enrol in an English-speaking business school.

The TOEIC test is a valuable credential for professionals, with the test being recognised worldwide by companies, agencies, colleges and universities in over 120 countries. Many large companies use the TOEIC test to document progress in English training programmes, to recruit, promote, and hire employees.

The TOEIC tests

There are two different kinds of TOEIC test: the Listening and Reading test and the Writing and Speaking one.

The Listening and Reading TOEIC Test

The TOEIC Listening and Reading test contains a total of 200 multiple choice questions, divided into two sections: listening (100 questions) and reading (100 questions). The test will last two and a half hours and the exam questions are based upon everyday work-related situations (meetings, travel, telephone calls, etc.). Each section is marked separately on a scale ranging from 5 – 495 points

The Speaking and Writing TOEIC Test

The TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests are done separately from each other and you will get a different score for each. The writing test will measure your vocabulary and grammar as well as coherence and organisation. The test lasts 60 minutes and has eight questions to be completed in that time. The speaking side of the test last 20 minutes with 11 questions being asked.

TOEIC test preparation courses

If you want to take your TOEIC certificate you might consider preparing yourself for it with a TOEIC test preparation course. In order to enrol in this course you need to have a B1 level of English according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

In our UK centres (London and Torbay) you can start your course every first Monday of the month, it lasts two weeks and it is combined with our General English course as follows: 15 hours of General English and 7.5 hours of exam preparation during which you will learn how to approach the exam and practise until you  feel confident to get the score needed.

The same course structure is followed in our LAL centre in Sliema (Malta) with the only difference being that the course takes four weeks rather than two.

Furthermore, in Boston and Fort Lauderdale we offer a full-time 4 weeks TOEIC test preparation course starting on 4 specific dates. Contact one of our student advisors to find out more information about our TOEIC test preparation courses.

If you are not sure what your level of English is we can help you in assessing your level and suggest to you the learning path that best suits your skills and needs.
